White Boxer
The colors of the boxer, and the law of Mendel
Translated from the Italian original.
In the breeding of the boxer the number of breeding animals is increasingly decreasing, because a very rigid selection is carried out because of hereditary diseases. A German boxer that acts as a player must pass the controls of the hip dysplasia (HD), hereditary diseases of the heart, Spτosis and Cryptorchidism. In addition must have the permission to reproduce that attests the
The number of animals passing the selection becomes smaller and smaller. This is also seen with the decrease of participants in the ZTP (1998: 663 participants,1999:528 participants, 2000:467 participants, data taken from the book of origins 1 page.138; Ströhler Test d'attattattenza alla riproduzione; Boxer-Blätter 2/2001, p.88.) This reduces the pool of the Genes, which are already very few and more. With the inclusion in 2000, of the controls of the
This decision was no longer revoked, until the end of the 1970s, by the law for the protection of animals. In addition to other things, it prohibits the killing of vertebrate animals without any plausible reason. Boxer-Klub tried to contest this law, justifying brutal practice with reasons on the supposed genetic and healthy tore (Wegner, Kleine Kynologie, 1995, p.273). Prof. Dr. Wegner (Annover University of Veterinary) condemned the killing of puppies, as a purely aesthetic practice, because there is no connection between the so-called genetic problems and defects and the coloring of the mantle. (Wegner, p.274). As a result of this sentence, white puppies, since 01.01.1979, are released the pedigree, but they cannot be used for reproduction.
Despite the law for the protection of animals, which has been in force for 20 years, there are still very few white boxers. Many people have never seen one. How can it be possible, that in the coupling of two boxers of color Fulvo/igrato, but with the white reciprocative-hereditary color do not born whites? According to Mendel's law you should have 25% white. (See Chapter 2.1 on the legacy of white color). This is explained by the fact, that many breeders plan to have the possibility of white cubs in which you do not have the possibility of white puppies. Another explanation is that many breeders continue to kill white puppies, justifying the failure to register and death, with the banal excuse that they were too weak to survive. Others deny the presence of white puppies in the litter. Others only have to eliminate male puppies, because the problem of the Criptorchidism could arise, which would cause a further deterioration of the prestige of the cubs. On average only 21% of the white puppies are born, according to official records are raised and are still under the condition (the BK still being suppressed).
The number of white cubs, of the litters regularly registered since 1979 is increasing continuously. A statistics from 1979 until 1996 states that the percentage is still very low. White cubs, as we have already said, cannot be used for reproduction and cannot be exposed. They can support patents, since this also allows the subjects Cryptorchidi. At the Jugendmeisterschaft of 2000 the third place went to the white boxer Blanco v.Ochtenumdeich (Zwatzki, 2. Deutsche Jugendmeisterschaft 2000 Nevenburg, BB
The colours of the boxer are genetically transmitted as the Mendel law indicates. The boxer has a basic color, which can be either Fulvo or Tigrate. The tiger is a dominant color (Schleger, Hundezüchtung in Teorie und Praxis, 1986, p.177). Regardless of the basic color, the white is transmitted by the gene which otherwise limits the extent of the base color. Little white in turn is dominant on so much white (Schleger, p.19.). The white gene is recessivo, the "color" gene is partially dominant, so the heterozygotic dogs will have white spots (Burns and Fraser, Die Vererbung des Hundes, 1968, p.70). It is not yet explained, because the extension of the white spots in the heterozygotic dogs is different. It is assumed that the presence of a modified gene is the cause (Burns & Faster, p.70). In any case, white is first on the chest and the biological, then on the bel, muse and many causes are different in the white.
The main element of the colour is pigment, its chemical base is melanin. Melanin is derived from the oxidising reactions and with the help of chyrosin and the enzymes of the amino acid Tirosinase. If one of these two reagents is missing, Tirosin or Tirosinase, no colouring can occur. Dogs that lack the amino acids of Tirosinase are albino, because despite the presence of Tyrosinase, they cannot form pigment. These dogs have red eyes. If there is no Tirosinase, it can happen that a small amount of Tirosin succeeds through other mechanisms, to turn into melanin. This only limits themselves to the eyes, in fact these animals will have icst eyes and will have white mantiss and the white mantis.
We are not yet aware of the mechanisms that cause the white size. It is assumed that a missing location of the Tyrosine causes the white size. (Schleger, Hundezüchtung in Teorie und Praxis, 1986, p.199) Without a doubt, white boxers are not albino. They have eyes, dark truffles and often spots on the skin.
That white boxers are carriers of hereditary altars and that they have a poor health has not been established, because of the few subjects available. From the personal experience with white boxers, I can say that they are absolutely not subjects with a weaker health of the "colored" boxers. Our oldest white bitch, now turns six and lives in the South of France. Despite the very sunny climate, she has never had skin problems. This is also confirmed by the fact that other rag-stemmed breeds, such as the Dalmatian or the Butterrier (Juraschko, Populationsgenetische Untersole kongenitalen Taubheit beim Dalmatiner, 2000, p.25) do not have a bad health. On the contrary, the bullterrier is considered a very resistant breed. (Burns&Fraser, Die Vererbung des Hundes, 1968, p. 204). The Dalmata tends to have problems of calculating the mum routes, this particularity is not present in any other race. (Wegner, Kleine Kynier, 1995, p. 14. 14.
Another problem with Dalmatians is the possible presence of the celestial eyes. Present sometimes, even in the white and sliced boxers. (Dietz, 02.01) It is not the case in color boxers. (Rezewski, councilwoman delegated to the breeding of the BK, 20.04.2011) It is known that dogs with clear eyes, are subject to anomalies and deafness (Wegner, Kleine Kynologie, 1995, p.247/248 and Juraschko, Populationsgenetische Unteruliung., 2000, p.110/101). Therefore, the Dalmatians with clear eyes have the prohibition of reproduction. It is not known whether there is a link between the gene that transmits the clear eye and the gene that leads to the size. At the University Clinic of Hanover, studies are currently being carried out on the subject. We speak in the next chapter of deafness in the Dalmatian.
